Official Opening of our Multipurpose Centre and Research Building

An Taoiseach, Mr. Bertie Ahern, TD will perform the official opening of our Multipurpose Centre and Research Building today Friday 30th March at 4.30pm in the foyer of the Research/ITSBIC Building.

The Multi-Purpose Centre is the centerpiece of the college’s expanding sports quarter at the western end of the campus. The new building replaces the Aula Maxima as a sports facility and venue for exhibitions and conferring ceremonies. This project costing just over €6.3M was mainly funded by restricted reserves built up over the years from student capitation funding together with support from the Department of Arts, Sports and Tourism.

The Research Building houses 500sq m of research laboratories and offices and is the first dedicated research building to be constructed for the Institute of Technology sector. It accommodates over 30 research students and staff and includes a state of the art instrumentation laboratory. The building, costing €1.5m, was funded under the National Development Plan, through the HEA in the Programme for Research in Third level Institutions and by restricted reserves built up over the years from student capitation funding, which is a mark of the Institutes commitment to the development of research.
