Sports & Recreation
Our students take their sport seriously, make no mistake about it. We know you can’t offer sport without good facilities and at IT Sligo we have top class facilities right here on our campus. So literally you can walk from your classes, or the library, to the Knocknarea Arena to get togged out for training and put yourself through a good work out in the gym. Nothing like burning off some energy to take your mind off the books. A short walk takes you back to the main building for some food, or you can eat at the Knocknarea Arena.

Our sports facilities include:
- Floodlit championship standard playing pitches for gaelic games, soccer and rugby
- An all weather running track with facilities for track and field athletics
- Hi spec training pitches
- Knocknarea Arena
The following facilities are available to all students and staff in the Knocknarea Arena:
- Sports hall for indoor sports, large enough to accommodate two full five-a-side pitches or two basketball courts.
- Multi-purpose area for a variety of uses.
- A state-of-the-art gym with over thirty exercise machines and a number of further stations for personal fitness.
- Snack bar with a viewing balcony over the Athletics arena and playing pitches.
In the evening the indoor arena is used for concerts and other performances and also when required we use it for exams and Institute events such as conferrings.

About the Scheme
The Sports Scholarship Programme is designed to nurture talented sports people who are prepared to make the commitment to the IT Sligo sports clubs in their chosen discipline. If successful, you will also have to balance this with your studies.
This means that you will be expected to represent IT Sligo at third level competitions while satisfying academic requirements.
The overall aim of the scheme is to recruit, manage and develop players/athletes with exceptional ability so as to position IT Sligo as a premier centre of sporting performance.
Sports Scholarships are initially awarded for two years. If your application is successful you will be offered a starting scholarship to the value of €1,250 in the first year of study. Sport Travel Bursaries are also available to students competing at national and international levels.
You will also received mentoring support, training guidance and other value-added support as a scholarship recipient.
