The research being carried out is a current and contentious issue within the tourism industry. It has been funded by Fáilte Ireland and is being carried out through the Institute of Technology Sligo. The research is based on sustainable eco-certification and sustainable destination management. Researchers’ background is in business and tourism and has worked for a number of years in the tourism industry in France. This is where her interests began and lead to wanting to research effective sustainable destination management and certification from a global perspective. This research is enhanced by Easy-Eco programme which was carried out through Vienna University and the IIIEE at Lund University, Sweden. The global perspective of the research was taken through work and collaboration with Sustainable Travel International.
