Abstract:

Aims:

A comparative analysis of the services provided as perceived by the service providers and service users in the North West of Ireland for minors trafficked into Ireland for the purpose of prostitution.  

Objectives:

  1. To obtain verifiable data on the percentage of welfare professionals with fact based knowledge of trafficking in the Northwest of Ireland (Sligo, Donegal, Mayo, Roscommon, and Leitrim).
  2. To explore the range of attitudes to trafficking among welfare professionals in the field, such as social workers, psychologists, Garda and social care workers
  3. To establish a reliable mode of comparison between the service users and the professionals knowledge, experience and understanding of provisions in order to a) ensure welfare professionals are fully aware of and engaged with the range of factors involved in  trafficking problems and (b) in facilitating efficient dissemination of knowledge from professionals to the service users .
  4. To obtain qualitative data from a sample of people who have been trafficked to Ireland for the purpose of prostitution a for critical comparison with the understanding of the conditions of trafficked people as presented by welfare professionals.
