IRCHSS
The Research Council operates a suite of interlinked Research Schemes. The IRCHSS Government of Ireland Post-Graduate Scholarships and Government of Ireland Post-Doctoral Fellowships fund research at pre- and post-doctoral levels. The Research Council operates three Schemes which offer research opportunities for members of the academic staff of recognised third-level institutions to undertake stated projects.

IRCSET
IRCSET operates multi-million euro research funding initiatives which support talented researchers in their early stage career formation across Masters, Doctoral and Postdoctoral levels in the sciences, engineering and technology.

The IRCSET Call for Postdoctoral Fellowships in 2011 is now open.

SFI
A sum of €8.2 billion has been allocated for scientific research under the National Development Plan (NDP) and the Strategy for science, technology and innovation (SSTI) of which SFI has responsibility to invest €1.4 billion. The Marine Institute
The Marine Institute is the national agency responsible for Marine Research, Technology Development and Innovation (RTDI). The Institute aims to assess and realise the economic potential of Ireland’s 220 million acre marine resource; promote the sustainable development of marine industry through strategic funding programmes and essential scientific services; and safeguard our marine environment through research and environmental monitoring.

The Irish Cancer Society
The Irish Cancer Society is the national charity dedicated to cancer prevention, care, research, and education. Cancer Research Ireland is the research division of the Society. The primary focus of the society is promoting patient-relevant cancer research. We are the single largest voluntary supporter of cancer research in Ireland.

INTERREG is a Community initiative which aims to stimulate interregional cooperation in the EU. It started in 1989, and is financed under the Europian Regional Development Fund (ERDF). The current programme is INTERREG IV, covering the period 2007–2013.

EPA
The Environmental Protection Agency has responsibilities for a wide range of licensing, enforcement, monitoring and assessment activities associated with environmental protection. The Agency provides funding to support science, technology, research and innovation projects through grant-aid to third level institutions, state agencies, government departments, local and regional authorities, the private sector and individuals.

CARDI
CARDI is a not for profit organisation developed by leaders from the ageing field across Ireland (North and South) including age focused researchers, academics, statutory, voluntary and community sector representatives with support from The Atlantic Philanthropies. It is overseen by a Steering Group and hosted by the Institute of Public Health in Ireland.

NRA
The National Roads Authority (NRA) was formally established as an independent statutory body under the Roads Act, 1993 with effect from 1 January, 1994. The Authority’s primary function, under the Roads Act 1993, is ‘to secure the provision of a safe and efficient network of national roads’. For this purpose, it has overall responsibility for planning and supervision of construction and maintenance works on these roads.

European Research Advisory Board
The Independent European Research Advisory Board (ERAB) invites applications for funding of any aspect of biomedical or psychosocial research into beer or alcohol from researchers from an established European research institution or university.

Ireland Canada Universtiy Foundation Craig Dobbin Scholarships
These awards are designed principally for young scholars and academics who are currently engaged at graduate level research in a discipline which is, or has potential to be, related to both Ireland and Canada, or who are commencing such research. All academic disciplines are eligible. The funds are provided to meet the costs of a short visit of three to four weeks to a university or research institution in the other country.
