Examinations Arrangement for Students with Disabilities

All students will have to undergo examinations during their studies at IT Sligo, along with the Examinations Office, the Access Office can facilitate special arrangements to allow students with disabilities / ongoing illness to perform in examinations on an equal par with their class colleagues.  These special arrangements can include:

  • additional time
  • use of assistive technology
  • provision of a reader
  • provision of a scribe
  • access to smaller centre
  • access to food / liquids / medications
  • rest breaks / easy access to toilets etc. as required

In order that these facilities can be arranged and operate smoothly at the time of exam, it is essential that the student in question register with and provide the required supporting documentation to the Access Officer or Learning Support Tutor as early as is possible in the college year.  Closer to the date of examinations, students must request supports for their specific exams, all students will be emailed the Examinations Special Needs Request Form.  This form should be completed after the examination timetables are posted on noticeboards and website and returned to the Access Officer / Learning Support Tutor by the date specified.

The deadline for submission of these forms are as follows:

5th August 2011 for Autumn/ repeat examinations due to take place in August 2011.

It is the student’s responsibility to return this form with details on the examinations to be taken in the timescale given.  Given the complexity involved in organising examination supports for in excess of one hundred students, students who submit their request form late cannot expect to have special arrangements accommodated.

Requests are approved by the Access Office in line with the individual support plan and the documentation previously submitted to the office.  The requests are submitted by the Access Office to the Examinations Office who make all the arrangements for the examinations, and contact with the student as required.

It is not recorded on examination results or qualifications issued by IT Sligo, that a student has been provided with special arrangements for their examinations.
