Faith Development

The development of faith among the student body is a primary concern of the Chaplaincy. As a team, the Chaplaincy prays together for and aims to provide enriching prayer experiences for the IT Sligo community.

In addition to our masses and prayer services. The Chaplaincy does the following:

Alpha – The Alpha faith exploration programme gives a basic introduction to the Christian faith. Its usually run in November and December.

Student Lenten Retreat – 6 prayer guides are available for one week during Lent. These are aimed to uide Students in deeper and more meaningful forms of prayer e.g. Praying with the Bible.

Reflections – The Chaplaincy prints a reflection with the Newsletter every week and has reflections displayed on notice boards throughout the Institute.

Distribution of St. Brigid’s Crosses and Rosaries – The Chaplaincy will distribute St. Brigid’s crosses on February 1st and Rosary Beads are distributed occasionally to students in IT Sligo.

Pilgrimages – Though many students go on Pilgrimages for a bit of Craic and a day out, the Chaplaincy promote the pilgrimages as a spiritual experience as well as a chance to get away. In October, a trip is organised to climb Croagh Patrick. A week-long trek along the Camino to Santiago de Compostela in Spain occurs every Easter. A pilgrimage to Medjugorje usually leaves in late July/early August.
