When Renting Accommodation:

Deposit – Check that any deposit you are asked to pay is refundable, and also the conditions applying to the refund. Get a receipt for your deposit and all future rent payments.

Conditions – Check that the accommodation is clean and habitable.

Electricity – Check out arrangements for the payment of electricity – Is there a meter or a bill? Who pays the bill?

Heating – Is there any? How much does it cost? Remember that a house, which seems warm in September, may be very cold in November.

Refuse – What are the collection arrangements and who pays the cost?

Inventory – Before moving into a new property, both you and your landlord should make a list of all furniture and appliances in the property. This list should detail the current state of all items in the property, and should be signed by both of you. If there are any queries regarding damage to items when reclaiming your deposit on departure, this can be used as a valuable reference guide.

Bus Service – Is your accommodation close to IT Sligo, if not, is it close to the local Sligo bus route? This Bus service has a stop directly outside the front doors of IT Sligo.

Viewing - Always ensure that you have viewed the property before signing a lease or paying a deposit.

Finally:

Remember, As a tenant you  have the right to peace and quiet  in your new home, BUT you also have a responsibility to allow your neighbours the same right to peace and quiet.

Respect the rights of your neighbours at all times.
