Games Development Summer Camp

This camp will deliver a focused 3-day games development experience. Attendees will work staff and student helpers to develop a playable 2D game of their own design. This camp builds on previous workshops delivered in IT Sligo during Science Week and Engineering Week over the past eight years, all of which have been extremely popular with attendees.

Each day of the camp will focus on a different aspect of games development (Content, Programming and Game Design).

Students are to be provided with a copy of all teaching material and software used to continue to enhance their development skills after the camp has ended.

OUTLINE

DAY 1: INTRODUCTION AND CONTENT

• Introduction to the Unity Game Engine

• Importing Sprites and Audio assets

• Creating Animations

• Creating Animation Controllers

• Creating a test scene for development

DAY 2: PLANNING AND PROGRAMMING

• Introduction of game idea

• Defining requirements

• Introduction to programming in C#

o Variables, Methods

• Introduction to scripting in Unity

o Components and Game Objects

• Programming of core game logic

DAY 3: LEVEL DESIGN AND TESTING

• Fleshing out test scene with final art assets

• Iterating on level design and tweaking data-driven game logic

• Add Menus (Main Menu, Pause Menu)

• Packaging game executable for Windows
