Sligo is making final preparations for the return of Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2015 – and IT Sligo will play a central role in this unique celebration of Irish traditional music and culture.

In Irish, the name Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann means The Music Festival of Ireland – and that is exactly what it is. The Fleadh, as it is usually called, is the largest single festival of Irish music and can reach attendances of 400,000 over the course of nine eventful days (August 9-16th).

IT Sligo will be the main competition ‘hub’ for the All-Ireland Fleadh on the final weekend, August 14th-16th. 14 of the Fleadh’s 25 competition venues will be located on the Institute’s campus. Several of the signature festival events will be held here, including ‘Transatlantic Connections: The James Morrison Story’ on Thursday August 13th at the Knocknarea Arena, and the hugely popular All-Ireland Céilí Bands Competition at the same venue on Sunday evening (16th).

“The Institute is privileged to play a part in hosting one of Ireland’s signature cultural events,” said Professor Vincent Cunnane, President of IT Sligo. “We look forward to welcoming the thousands of visitors to our campus – and we’ve no doubt that they’ll be impressed by the range of facilities available to them.”
