An IT Sligo lecturer presents a new 15-part radio series on Ocean FM which aims to make the world of Science more accessible to the general public.
‘The Appliance of Science’ is broadcast on Sunday mornings at 9.30am, and is hosted by Dr Sarah Hehir (pictured), a lecturer in Life Sciences at IT Sligo.
The series aims to teach basic principles of science in an accessible way, relating theory and experimentation to concrete examples familiar to any listener. Embracing subjects as diverse as modern communications , nano particles or the biological background to invasive species the series breaks these topics down into manageable segments and reveals how science is the building block for so many aspects of their daily life.
“The aim of the series is to debunk some of the myths around Science,” explains Dr Hehir. “So many everyday occurences have a fascinating science story behind them. Our programemes aim to convey this in a genuinely accessible way for the public.”
The series covers 15 diverse topics including Honey, Flying, Stroke, Electromagnetism and Bubbles.
