As part of the event management class, three business students from IT Sligo are facilitating in the development of the 5th Annual Wise Woman Weekend. The weekend will take place on the 28th – 30th of May and is being held in Dromahair Co. Leitrim. According to the students the Wise Woman Weekend is a weekend of learning, discovery, celebration and fun for women of all ages, “We are very excited about the weekend and are looking forward to working with the organisers, we feel our contribution will bring something new to the festival and we plan to provide as much input as possible”. The students are mixing business with pleasure by applying their academic know-how into a real life situation. Applying theory to practice is a huge part of the event management module and the students have been lucky enough to work with a professional event management team in organising the Wise Woman Festival. With the help and support of their lecturer Joanna Sweeney the students believe that the festival will be a real success and prove to be very beneficial in developing practical skills among the group.
The festival is a weekend of learning, discovery, celebration and fun and covers a wide range of activities for women of all ages. Some of the workshops include art exhibitions, standing visualisations, African drumming and Egyptian dance. The students believe that the festival is a great way for women to learn about new things in a creative way and to explore new and upcoming ideas. Like in previous years the main aim of the festival is to create an empowering space where women can share their knowledge, skills, talents, experiences and feel connected to and inspired by the community of women.
The weekend will be a great boost to the economy of Dromahair as it is a very popular event and draws women from all over the Country. The Weekend has been organised with holistic sustainable principles in mind – all goods and services are sourced in the immediate community, environmentally friendly products are used and women run enterprises are promoted. The Wise Woman Weekend has proven to be a huge success for the past number of years and with the collaboration of enthusiastic and eager IT students this year’s event will only get better.
