One of IT Sligo’s new Graduate Ambassadors played a starring role in County Sligo Golf’s Club’s All-Ireland Senior Cup title success at Carton House last weekend.

Declan Reidy was a member of the five-strong County Sligo team which beat Castle Golf Club (Rathfarnham) in Saturday’s final to claim the title for the fifth time in the club’s history.

Reidy, a graduate in Business, recently began a new role as a Graduate Ambassador for IT Sligo for the 2016/17 academic year.

He was one of two players on the winning County Sligo team with Institute connections. Mark Morrisey studied Health Science & Physiology.

“Mark and myself were on the winning which won the Senior Cup in 2013, so we had a bit of experience to draw on this time around,” said a delighted Declan.

“This is probably a bigger win overall because the team was less experienced this year.”

County Sligo edged home 3-2 in Saturday’s final against Castle Golf Club.

However, Saturday’s victory was also tinged with sadness as a close friend of the team, Mark Rooney, who was also a noted golfer and former graduate of IT Sligo, passed away at the weekend, following a lengthy illness.

The County Sligo Golf Club players wore Mark’s initials on their golf gloves during Saturday’s final.
