A design which aims to enhance the experience of working from home has earned an IT Sligo student an aaward in a prestigious national design competition.
Ronan McCabe from Sligo is a third year BA in Creative Design student, was highly commended for his ‘Hoffice’ – a design for a new home office solution – at the Walls To Workstations (W2W) design competition.
He was one of 12 students from Ireland’s University and Institutes of Technology design courses to be shortlisted for the final . This is the second consecutive year that an IT Sligo Creative Design undergraduate has made the competition short-list.
Students were challenged to re-imagine the workplace by investigating human centred and biophilic design principles.
“My concept of an ‘office in the back garden’ creates a relaxed, modern and spacious environment, without the daily distractions of the home,” explains Ronan.
“The ‘Hoffice’ offers not only an off-the-shelf solution for home workers but it’s also a space that they can be every bit as creative, productive and value-adding as a counterpart located in an office space situated anywhere around the world.”
Adrian Durcan, lecturer in Creative Design and Performing Arts at IT Sligo, and Ronan’s project said: “Ronan’s success in making this national shortlist aligns IT Sligo’s Creative Design degree with those offered by the national universities which also appear in the final twelve.”
