A group of IT Sligo marketing students will be helping to celebrate the role of volunteering in the local community thanks to a special St Patrick’s Day collaboration with the Sligo Volunteer Centre.
Students from the Institute’s School of Business and Social Sciences are currently organising a float for the Sligo volunteer centre, which will be on display in the Sligo St Patrick’s Day parade on March 17th.
Their work is part of the community project module at IT Sligo. The module offers an opportunity for students to gain valuable hands on experience in marketing.
Sligo’s designation as European Volunteering Capital for 2017 provides the main theme for this year’s parade.
“The float we are aims to promote Sligo as well the Volunteer Centre.,” explains Connor Horan, who’s a second-year student in the Institute’s Bachelor of Business in Marketing and Sales. “The centre offers a link between people interested in volunteering and non-profit organisations. It gives advice and support on volunteering opportunities in the region.
The float will incorporate and promote the various services which the centre offers. With the assistance of Sligo Sport and Recreation partnership, the students have acquired a tandem bicycle which will be part of their parade entry.
The Sligo St Patrick’s Day Parade 2017 starts at 12pm on March 17th.
