BA Writing and Literature student Julianna Holland read with the internationally renowned author Kevin Barry at The Word in Sligo Central Library. The Word is collaboration between Sligo Central Library and the BA in Writing & Literature at IT Sligo and takes place the last Wednesday of each month.
Julianna is a student on the programme and this past year has had work published in the Bath Flash Fiction Anthology and the journal Banshee and is a member of The Sandy Field Writers’ Group based in County Sligo.
Sligo based Kevin Barry is the author of City of Bohane, which was the winner of the 2013 International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award. He came to prominence after winning the Sunday Times Short Story Award (2012) and has published two collections Dark Lies the Island and There are Little Kingdoms. His 2015 novel Beatlebone won the 2015 Goldsmiths Prize. It is also one of seven books by Irish authors nominated for the 2017 International Dublin Literary Award, the world’s most valuable annual literary fiction prize for books published in English. He co-edits Winter Papers an annual anthology for the arts.
The writers had an overwhelming reception at the Library with a packed audience.
