New BSc (Honours) Computing (Smart Technologies) Degree at IT Sligo
IT Sligo will commence a new Bachelor of Science honours degree in Smart Technologies this September 2018.
This innovative four year honours degree programme prepares graduates to be the next generation of technology designers and architects. Working at the confluence of hardware, software, networking and communications, you’ll learn how to sense data, manipulate information and discover innovative ways to integrate technology into everyday lives.
This course has a number of distinct features including a common first year – many are unsure of computing. While we have an array of programmes, we recognise that you may wish to ‘sample and see’ so we encourage students to look at their choice afresh at end of Year 1.
Equipment – we believe you learn best by doing. We have invested heavily in Raspberry Pi, Arduino kit and sensors so you can ‘play’ with building your own solution to problems.
Project – projects enable you to really grapple with a problem and create innovative solutions. In Year 3 you’ll have the space and support to work in a team year-long towards a solution that will give your CV that leading edge.
Work Placement – Our network of employers welcome this programme and a successful work placement is often the door to a full-time job.
It is envisaged that our graduates will enter jobs at the technical end of the computer science and computer engineering spectrum; hardware and embedded technology developers, control system engineers, systems architects, network administrators and technical computing staff. The list of possible employers is constantly growing and evolving as we find new and innovative uses for technology, the big companies in this space are already in Ireland – Dell, Cisco, Analog Devices, IBM, Accenture, DairyMaster. Other graduates may set up their own companies or chose to study a postgraduate qualification such as our M.Sc. in Automotive Technology.
