Over 1000 students gathered at IT Sligo today, Monday the 10th of September to start their first day at college. The event was held at the Institutes Knocknarea Arena where they heard from guest speaker, Mayo footballer and former student of IT Sligo, Andy Moran.  MC for the Induction, Registrar, Colin McClean thanked the students for attending and encouraged them to take an active role in the community of IT Sligo.

For many students it will be their first time leaving home and the induction day included advice in the transition from home to college life, given tours of the campus, receive ID’s and network login details, timetables and an overall introduction to the services available at IT Sligo.

Student Union President, Vanessa Molloy, addressed the audience giving a run down of all the services available at the SU:

” The students’ union is a wealth of information. There is literally nothing you can’t ask the SU. We can either help you or at the very least point you in the right direction.”

There was also a parents/guardians talk to help them with an array of topics from fees and grants to advice on supporting their children through third level.  The event was MC’d by Ann Higgins and John Kelleher and was attended by over 100 parents.
