The BB In Marketing & Sales students have teamed up with Clean Coasts to help create an event to raise awareness regarding Ocean Plastic. On the 7th November 2019 at 12noon the students will be launching a short film in room A0006 IT Sligo called “Chaos in the Ocean”.
On the Day there will be a viewing of the Film followed by a talk from the Clean Coasts Representative in Sligo/Mayo.
The students have secured sponsorship and there will be a virtual quiz afterwards where attendees can win a prize.
According to a recent article on the Journal.ie, a single use plastic ban bill will be discussed by the government which will aim to put biodegradable packaging on supermarket shelves in the future. Mayor firms are responsible for large amounts of plastic waste and are currently avoiding clean up responsibility. Approximately 10 million tonnes of plastic end up in our ocean each year according to the European Commission. Recently, Clean Coasts have been running many beach cleans around Ireland and are teaming up with businesses to help remove trash such as cotton buds, bags of litter, constant monitoring of beaches and creating awareness regarding types of Ocean Plastic.
Join us in IT Sligo on the 7th November to hear all about how you can get involved with your local Clean Coast group.
Watch a short Film showing how much plastics we are still using on a daily basis, made on campus and starring the students. Richard Curtin will be there on the day to tell us all about Ocean Plastic initiatives and will be on hand to answer questions.
