A group of IT Sligo students recently organised a charity fundraising event raising €900 on campus for Bóthar. Bóthar enables families and communities worldwide to overcome hunger and poverty and to restore the environment in a sustainable way. BBS (Add on) Year 4 Students worked in conjunction with the postgraduate student interns working with the SIF Accelerating Campus Entrepreneurship (ACE). Pat McCarrick, Director of Fundraising at Bothar, gave a presentation about the work of the organisation to students. This was followed by a presentation of the fundraising cheque to Pat. Through undertaking the fundraiser, as well as helping an Irish charity organisation, students practically applied what they had learned on their Corporate Social Responsibility and Social Entrepreneurship module.
Bóthar specialises in improved livestock production and support related training and community development. Bóthar also educates the public in Ireland about global poverty. They establish families in micro-farming units by giving them the living gift of a farm animal.
The fundraising event was coordinated by Cáit Keaveney, SIF Accelerating Campus Entrepreneurship (ACE) project and Cathy O Kelly (Lecturer) IT Sligo.
The fundraising team would like to thank all the students and staff members of IT Sligo who contributed on the day.
Students and lecturers from the Bachelor of Business Studies (Honours) present a cheque to Pat McCarrick of Bóthar at IT Sligo.
