Free workshops on how to use professional networking facilities like LinkedIn, clinics on CV preparation, and advice on interview techniques, are just some of the attractions at the IT Sligo Graduate Fair, which will be held in the Knocknarea Arena this Wednesdayfrom 12noon to 4pm.
The Graduate Fair is a must for students, graduates, job seekers and those wishing to re-train or up-skill in what has become a hugely competitive and challenging work environment.
Major local and national employers, education providers, professional bodies and State agencies will all be represented at what will be the biggest employment event in the North West this year.
The convivial and creative atmosphere under one roof will help people to choose the right options, gain invaluable experience on the day, and learn firsthand the growing importance of social networking such as LinkedIn and Facebook, in their quest to bring their CV to the notice of potential employers.
This will be a very much a ‘hands-on’ Fair, with a number of practical workshops from experts throughout the day, aimed specifically at empowering the individual to exploit their own unique skills set, including a CV clinic, mock interview skills and techniques, personal branding and exploring a more flexible and diverse job opportunity strategy.
Visitors to the fair will meet with potential employers and may have an opportunity to take part in preliminary interviews. Respected employers in attendance will range from Abbotts Ireland to Coca Cola, Corrib Gas and Waterways Ireland.
Education providers will be visiting from as far afield as the London Metropolitan University, St. Mary’s, Twickenham, Portsmouth University and the Open University to closer to home options including Queens University, DIT, University of Limerick, University of Ulster and NUI Galway.
IT Sligo Careers Officer, Adette Ring, said: “Anyone who is coming close to finishing college or who is looking for employment needs to attend the IT Sligo Graduate Fair. This is a huge opportunity to meet face to face with potential employers and to making that first step towards getting a job, or indeed a new job.”
“There are many different options available for people who are graduating from college and for those who are out of work and need to change direction – and sometimes it can be difficult to decipher what is the best route to take. The IT Sligo Graduate Fair presents all these options under the one roof with experts at hand to advise what option is best.”
“We are encouraging visitors to the Fair to register on LinkedIn. This will significantly enhance their career networks and bring their CVs to the attention of employers.”
“I would advise people planning to attend the Fair to bring updated copies of their Curriculum Vitae and to come with an open mind. The employment market is an unpredictable place at the moment but there are opportunities out there.”
