IT Sligo Green Campus, in partnership with our Estates team and IT Sligo Students’ Union, wants to raise awareness of the environmental impact of the energy we all use.
On Wednesday 8th December IT Sligo will turn down heating across campus by 10C and we are asking you to ‘get your knit on’ to show your support
Our campaign #getyourkniton wants to bring our community together to support a change to a greener, more sustainable campus.
Send us your jumper photo to show your support for a greener campus! But there is more…
For every jumper picture we receive, IT Sligo and IT Sligo Student’s Union will donate, on your behalf, to Northwest STOP, a local suicide prevention charity.
Take a photo or short video of yourself in your favourite knit, or Christmas jumper!
Share it to Twitter or Instagram tagging @ITSGreenCampus and @ITSligoSU, or
email it to greencampus@nullitsligo.ie.
Don’t forget to use hashtags #getyourkniton and #1degree.
Through simple action of turning down campus heating by #1degree, we could save over 40 tonnes of CO2 per year – that’s the average carbon footprint of 13 people in Ireland!
60% of all energy used in homes is for space heating. If every household turned their thermostat down by 1 degree we would save 590,000 tonnes of CO2 every year!
So how do you save energy and help the planet? Get your knit on and turn down your thermostat 1 degree!
It is the easiest and most effective way to reduce your energy footprint in one small step.

Residential energy use is the second largest user of energy in Ireland. If every household turned their thermostat down by 1 degree we would save 590,000 tonnes of CO2 every year! Conserve energy & reduce your carbon footprint, by turning the temperature down 1 degree.
Our IT Sligo Green Campus team of students were paramount in the success of the campaign.
They actively used our campaign collateral mixed with jumper pictures and their own content to drive the campaign forward.
