One of Ireland’s leading authorities in archaeology, Professor Emeritus Peter Woodman, will visit IT Sligo this Thursday to deliver a lecture entitled ‘New thoughts on Ireland’s first settlers’.
Professor Peter Woodman is internationally recognised as the leading authority on the Irish Mesolithic, the longest period in Irish archaeology (8,000 – 4,000 BC).
Spanning a career of almost 40 years, he is author of over 100 publications including The Mesolithic in Ireland. He also co-authored The archaeology of a Collection: the Keiller-Knowles Collection.
His excavations at Mount Sandel, Co. Derry and Ferriter’s Cove, Co. Kerry both produced unique results and significantly developed the understanding of the Mesolithic. He is highly regarded for his contribution to Mesolithic studies elsewhere in Europe, specifically in Scotland and northern Norway.
Peter Woodman returns to IT Sligo after 5 years with what promises to be an informative and interesting evening. Everyone is welcome!
The lecture is free and open to the public. All are welcome to attend. It will be held IN A0004 beside the Main Reception from 8pm.
