IT Sligo has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with one of Taiwan’s most prestigious publicly owned universities, the National Taipei University of Technology.
The National Taipei University of Technology (NTUT), which is located in Taipei city, has over 10,000 full-time students, and celebrates its centenary this year.
The agreement will provide the basis for on-going cooperation and collaboration between IT Sligo and NTUT in terms of student and staff mobility, research and student industry placements
The announcement, which underlines IT Sligo’s commitment to the Government’s strategy of increasing our international student intake, has been described as significant by the Institute’s Commercial & International Sales Manager, Patrick Lynch.
It follows a 20 per cent increase in IT Sligo’s international student intake, at a time when the Institute is welcoming Government-sponsored students from both Kuwait and the Sultanate of Oman for the first time.
The agreement follows a visit to NTUT in June 2012 by IT Sligo Taiwanese PhD student, Hui-Wen A Cheng. Dr Harry Tseng from the Taipei Representative Office in Dublin, who was a keynote speaker during IT Sligo’s Enterprise & Innovation Week earlier this year, also supported the initiative.
The MOU was signed at the recent EAIE (European Association for International Education) Conference in Dublin with Professor Sheng-Tung Huang PhD (Dean Office of International Affairs NTUT) representing the Taiwanese college while Mr Lynch attended on behalf of IT Sligo.
NTUT is one of the world’s leading research and teaching institutions. Mr Lynch pointed out that it had a shared vision with IT Sligo and with its focus on such areas Engineering (Electronic, Electrical and Mechanical), Business & Management, Computing, Design, Biotechnology and Social Science would be “a perfect fit” with the Institute.
