An IT Sligo Archaeology student will be one of the main participants in a flagship Archaeology event in Dublin this weekend, as part of the 2015 National Heritage Week celebrations.
Sally Siggins, who is a final year student in Applied Archaeology at the Institute, will share her experiences of studying and working on Irish archaeological sites. This is her second consecutive year to represent IT Sligo at this event.
Archaeofest is a free public engagement archaeology event, hosted by the Institute of Archaeologists of Ireland. It is family-centred and showcases various aspects of archaeological research and excavation with lots of fun-filled activities for kids to enjoy. There are Epic Excavations for children to experience the wonder of discovering ancient artefacts, a bouncy dolmen, pop-up museum, clay pipe workshop and exhibit, a blacksmith demonstrating 17th century forging techniques, a tent full of archaeologists with microscopes and much more.
Archaeofest takes place this Saturday, August 29th in Merrion Square, Dublin,from 11am-4pm. It is organised in conjunction with Dublin City Council, the Department for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht and the Heritage Council.
National Heritage Week (August 22nd – 30th) is coordinated by the Heritage Council and its aim is to build awareness and education about our heritage thereby encouraging its conservation and preservation.
