Work by a new generation of artists emerging from IT Sligo is on display at The Dock in Carrick-on-Shannon.
The Gathering Momentum exhibition provides a flavour of both the achievements and exciting potential of this year’s graduating art students following four years of intensive teaching and learning in the Art Department at the Institute of Technology Sligo. The exhibition runs until July 5.
The BA (Hons) Fine Art final year students specialise in painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, photography, film and mixed media installation.
Elizabeth Caffrey, a lecturer in Fine Art, said: “The students are delighted to have the opportunity to show their work at The Dock and everyone in the Art Department at IT Sligo is thrilled to be returning again to such a great venue.
“This 19th century building has been beautifully restored and its dedicated gallery spaces provide a perfect showcase facility for the students’ work.”
She added: “The exhibition presents an eclectic mix of formal and conceptual concerns expressed through a wide range of art practices. Anyone who comes along will get something out of the experience. You’ll come away with a new slant and a new way of looking at the issues and subjects that are at the heart of the art pieces.
“It’s an exhibition that combines artistic focus and ambition, and it provides a wonderful opportunity to view and engage with the work of students just emerging into a vibrant Irish art scene.”
