The battle lines will be drawn at IT Sligo on Wednesday 28 April when the lecturers face off against the students in a battle of strength and endurance in aid of The Asthma Society of Ireland. The main canteen will be transformed into a competitive arena where lecturers and students will cycle and row in an effort to raise money for the Asthma Society of Ireland. Ireland has the fourth highest prevalence of asthma worldwide with approximately 470,000 people affected. More than 1 in 5 people do not have their symptoms controlled.
The Bachelor of Business in Marketing –Event Management and PR third year group are responsible for the organisation of this event on behalf of the Asthma Society. The event consists of a competition between a team of students and a team of lecturers. They will race in a three hour long battle, from 11am until 2pm, to see which group can complete the most mileage/kilometres. Competitors will compete on two pieces of equipment found at gymnasiums, a stationary bicycle and a rowing machine. They will be competing against each other side by side on each piece of machinery. The overall winning team who gathers the most accumulated miles will be crowned the Asthma Campus Chase Champion.
Each team will be responsible for gathering the most sponsorship for each mile/kilometre they complete. During the day of the event, ongoing fundraising will take place by volunteers. There will also be a nurse on-site to answer any queries about asthma.
The Asthma Society of Ireland has created an application on their Facebook page where fans can send their friends a free virtual cupcake. For every ten cupcakes sent, their sponsor, Dyson, will donate €1 to the Asthma Society. So for all the Facebook followers out there, become a fan and raise money for the Asthma Society of Ireland. If you wish to sponsor any of the competitors taking part please contact Ciara on 087-9216200.
