Atlantic Technological University was officially awarded the Adjudicators Cup by the Sligo St Patrick’s Day Committee for their float entry to this year’s parade. The float consisted of a large “Salmon of Knowledge” a symbol of IT Sligo for many years and the symbolic change from the institute to the Atlantic Technological University.
The 20-foot float was operated by 16 Performing Arts and student Rugby FC members. The Salmon could twist and turn like a Chinese dragon using handles within. The piece was designed and constructed by ATU’s creative staff, including Kata Rozvadska, Marketa Formanova and David Roberts.
Finbar Filan from the Sligo St Patrick’s Day committee congratulated ATU’s entry to the parade:
“The Sligo St Patrick’s Day committee were delighted to present the adjudicators cup to the Atlantic Technological University. The adjudicators were most impressed with the design of the entry and the teamwork displayed in the construction of the entry and its presentation on the day.
On behalf of the Sligo St Patrick’s Day, Festival Committee would like to thank their partners, Sligo BID, Sligo County Council and Failte Ireland and all the parade entries who made the event this year so special.”
President of Atlantic TU, Dr Orla Flynn met with the team at a recent visit to the Sligo campus to receive the cup.
