IT Sligo’s collaboration with the Hawk’s Well Theatre during the successful ‘Sligo Sings’ project has been shortlisted for the 2016 Allianz Business to Arts Awards.
These prestigious national awards, which are now into their 25th year, recognise businesses, artists and arts organisations that develop creative partnerships across Ireland.
The ‘Sligo Sings’ project involved Hawk’s Well Theatre choirmasters developingand nurturing six new amateur choirs, created from the largest and busiest workplaces in Sligo. These included IT Sligo, Sligo University Hospital, the HSE, Sligo County Council, the Sligo Volunteer Centre and staff from the Department of Social Protection.
Each choir was made up of a cross-section of people from their respective workplaces. No previous choir experience was necessary.
The partnership between the Institute and the Hawk’s Well has been shortlisted in two award categories: Best Use of Creativity in the Community and Best Creative Staff Engagement.
The award winners will be announced at a ceremony in Dublin’s Bord Gáis Energy Theatre on September 19th.
