A keynote lecture on Concussion in Sport takes place this Monday evening (November 14th) in IT Sligo’s Aurivo Auditorium (7pm) as part of the Sligo Science Festival 2016.
The talk will be given by Dr Kevin Moran (pictured), consultant surgeon at Letterkenny University Hospital and Donegal GAA senior team doctor. He is also a member of the GAA’s Medical, Scientific and Welfare Committee and has a special interest in the relationship between player loading, recovery programmes and injury prevention.
A recent survey commissioned by Headway and Laya healthcare has revealed that two-thirds of parents now consider the risk of injury influences what sports they allow their children to play.
Seven in 10 parents believe schools and sports clubs lack adequate procedures and protocols when dealing with concussion with sport.
Monday’s talk at IT Sligo will provide an opportunity for all involved in sport (players, coaches, parents, administrators) to learn more about concussion and what to be aware of in their roles, to ensure this injury is handled correctly when it happens.
‘Concussion In Sport’ takes place in IT Sligo’s Aurivo Auditorium this Monday (November 14th) at 7pm.
Admission is free.
