ATU Sligo in formal collaboration with the Society of Chartered Surveyors of Ireland (SCSI) are delighted to offer Ireland’s first online part time Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Real Estate Development and Valuation.
The principal aim of the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Real Estate Development and Valuation programme is to produce graduates capable of meeting present and future needs and challenges in the Property and Surveying profession in the residential, commercial property sectors.
The aims, objectives and learning outcomes of the Programme takes cognisance of the constantly evolving property industry, in areas such as valuation, management, estate agency, property development, property investment, planning etc,. The aim of this programme is to provide the learner with the necessary knowledge and skills to become a property professional.
On successful completion of the programme the learner should be able to demonstrate the following:
1. Provide thorough knowledge and a demonstration of core topics such as management, planning and valuation.
2. Provide an understanding of various topics such as economics, construction, law, business, taxation, and marketing.
3. To develop core competencies in relation to communication and negotiation skills, time management, academic writing, research skill and teamwork through various modules and assignments.
4. To develop "AS learning" within the learners, by empowering students to conduct self-directed learning and critically evaluating their own work. This will lead to competent professionals within the workplace.
Key Course Information
The programme is delivered part-time online over two stages.
Stage one of the programme consists of 5 taught modules module delivered over 2 semesters. The taught modules examine key aspects including valuations, planning, and management.
Stage two of the programme consists of 5 taught modules delivered over 2 semesters. The taught modules examine key aspects relating in depth knowledge in valuations, planning and commercial property management.
Programme Attendance Requirements
Classes - Students remotely attend live online classes, including software tutorials. Should a student miss a live class they can view the recording whenever it suits them. Software is available for the duration of the course via remote access to our on-campus PCs or students may choose to download free student licences directly to their home PC/laptop. On average students will study three taught modules per semester - in addition to this there will a year long work based learning module. Typically there will be three live lectures per week - each live lecture lasts for approximately 1 hour. In addition to attending the lectures students will be required to undertake self study (3-5hrs per week per module). Live lectures will be delivered on Monday - Thursday evenings after 6pm.
Exams - For Examinations, students may have to attend at the ATU campus through which they completed their studies. For some programmes it may be possible for the Exam to be taken remotely via online proctoring. ATU Students resident in the Republic of Ireland will be invited to attend exams at an exam centre located in Ireland. Students’ resident outside of Ireland or with exceptional circumstances may be eligible to attend remotely via online proctoring, where examinations are taken online and supervised virtually, subject to availability.For further information, please visit our examinations hub.

Entry Requirements
Applicants must have as a minimum a National Framework of Qualifications level 7 Ordinary Degree in a related field or equivalent (including RPL etc).
For candidates without level 7 qualifications, a process of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) can be undertaken to assess the candidates’ suitability to the course. Applicants with other qualifications and with relevant work experience may also be considered through ATU Sligo’s Recognised Prior Learning (RPL) process. RPL is a process that may allow you to gain admission to a programme or to receive exemptions / credit from some parts of a programme based on demonstrated learning that you may have achieved through another programme of study or through your work and career. Academic Year 2024/25 Fees
Total Programme Fee: €7,800
To help make the payment of fees more manageable for students who are self-funding their studies, tuition fees can be paid through payment instalment plans at ATU Sligo. For further information on instalment plans, please visit our Fees and Funding webpage.
If you apply and are approved for an online course at ATU Sligo, you will be required to pay a non-refundable deposit of €250 to secure your place. Your deposit will then be credited against the course fees once you are registered as a student. Students at ATU Sligo are also eligible to claim tax relief at the standard rate for tuition fees.
