Course Summary
The Certificate in Digital Construction Technology has been developed in response to meeting the needs of the construction industry in providing graduates with knowledge and practical skills in the areas of Construction Technology, Site Surveying & BIM. The course aims to provide the learner with the knowledge and skills required to participate in BIM projects by providing learners with practical skills in widely used BIM tools like Revit, Navisworks, Civil 3D and BIM 360 as well as a theoretical knowledge of the processes involved in a BIM project.
Delivered fully online part-time, over 1 academic year the course also provides the opportunity for career progression in that it contains 30 out of the 60 credits needed to complete the professionally accredited BSc in Construction Management. Graduates from the programme may elect to complete the additional 30 credits of the Construction Site Management course and in doing so attain the BSc in Construction Management and in doing so gain membership of the professional body, CIOB.
The Certificate in Digital Construction Technology is delivered online through distance learning utilising a combination of live lectures, which are also recorded and blended learning techniques. This enables learners to work at their own pace and fit in their coursework around their existing work commitments and lifestyle. Course content and lecture material are uploaded to our Moodle course management system. The course is delivered online and can be taken totally from your own home.
For Examinations, students may have to attend at the ATU campus through which they completed their studies. For some programmes it may be possible for the Exam to be taken remotely via online proctoring. ATU Students resident in the Republic of Ireland will be invited to attend exams at an exam centre located in Ireland. Students’ resident outside of Ireland or with exceptional circumstances may be eligible to attend remotely via online proctoring, where examinations are taken online and supervised virtually, subject to availability.For further information, please visit our examinations hub.

Entry Requirements
Applicants should hold a Higher Certificate Level 6 in a construction related discipline. Those who do not meet the direct entry requirement but have significant industry experience or a Senior Craft Certificate (merit award) and industry experience may seek entry through RPL.
Graduates who have not obtained this minimum may incorporate other equivalent qualifications and relevant work experience and apply for assessment via the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process. RPL is a process that may allow you to gain admission to a programme or to receive exemptions / credit from some parts of a programme based on demonstrated learning that you may have achieved through another programme of study or through your work or career. Career Opportunities
This programme is focused on upskilling industry professionals in the use of core Building Information Modelling software tools such as Autodesk Revit, Navisworks Manage, Autodesk Civil 3D, BIM 360. Graduates from this programme gain an understanding of how to use these toools and will appeal to companies looking to involve themselves in BIM projects, including Architecture, Consulting Engineering and contracting firms operating in this area, both nationally and internationally.
Further Study
Graduates, with a pass grade in this programme may complete the Certificate in Construction Site Management L7 after, which on completion they will have successfully completed all modules of and be entitled to the award of the BSc in Construction Management L7.

Successful applicants to this course may receive funding for their fees through the HCI Pillar 3 Micro-Credentials Learner Fee Subsidy initiative. The number of funded places is limited and will be offered on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Applicants should note that they can only be registered on one programme at a time (including a micro-credential), at ATU during the academic year (September to May).
To help make the payment of fees more manageable for students who are self-funding their studies, tuition fees can be paid through payment instalment plans at ATU Sligo. For further information on instalment plans, please visit our Fees and Funding webpage.
If you apply and are approved for an online course at ATU Sligo, you will be required to pay a non-refundable deposit of €250 to secure your place. Your deposit will then be credited against the course fees once you are registered as a student. Students at ATU Sligo are also eligible to claim tax relief at the standard rate for tuition fees.
