IT Sligo is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Jacqueline McCormack to the newly-created role of Vice President of Online Development.

The new role was created by IT Sligo at Vice President (VP) level to drive the Institute’s commitment to growing its online/blended learning student population from 2,000 (in 2017) to over 5,500 by 2022.

Professor McCormack will work in partnership with employers and national agencies to identify the educational needs of the workforce and job seekers and together with the academic staff of the Institute will develop online/blended learning programmes to meet that need.

She will also support the development of the information services and related infrastructure within the IT to ensure they continue to meet the evolving needs of the institution.

Professor McCormack takes up the role having been Associate Head of School, Biomedical Sciences, and Professor of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Ulster. She has a sustained record of leadership, management and delivery in teaching, research and academic administration and substantial experience in e-learning.

Jacqueline has been a pioneer in the field of online learning since the 1990s and has made incredible strides in developing the online programmes at the University of Ulster over 14 years as the Associate Head of School, Biomedical Sciences. Her work is well known to us thanks to our collaboration with her School at the University of Ulster and she is an excellent fit for driving our ambitious plans for online/blended learning.

“The Institute has a national reputation for upskilling the work force through its online/blended learning programmes and is committed to growing its numberof online/blended learning students significantly over the next five years and to developing the capability of the academic staff in delivering online learning programmes. I personally look forward to working closely with Jacqueline in developing our online offerings and achieving these targets.”

Professor Jacqueline McCormack said “Having been closely involved in the instigation and development of three innovative joint degree programmes with IT Sligo as well as several programmatic reviews, I have learned much about the Institute and have been very impressed with both the organisation and its staff. E-learning offers huge opportunities for growth, widening access, regional development, and internationalisation of IT Sligo and I look forward to the opportunity to growing IT Sligo’s reputation on the area.

Professor McCormack, a native of Derry who resides in Coleraine, will be moving to Sligo to take up the position. She has two grown-up daughters, and her 11-year-old son will be accompanying her.
