The 1st Ecology and Evolution Ireland conference will be held in IT Sligo from November 24th to 26th, 2016.
This event will mark the official launch of the newly formed Irish Ecological Association (IEA). The conference will be key in disseminating the latest research in all areas of terrestrial, marine and freshwater ecology and evolution. It will be an opportunity for researchers in all areas of ecology to present research relevant to achieving healthy and sustainable ecosystems.
The conference promises an exciting mix of attendees from practitioners and consultants to established and early career stage academics. There will be a strong focus on networking and supporting ecology students.
IT Sligo is a superb location for such an event, not least because of its strong Environmental Science degree programme but also because of the stunning landscapes a stone’s throw away.
The conference will begin on Thursday, November 24th at 19:30 with a public lecture by Professor Ian Montgomery of Queens University, Belfast entitled: ‘Natives and invaders: the ecological impact of Ireland’s introduced mammals’.
The programme is packed with stimulating presentations and workshops. Professor Jane Memmott (University of Bristol), Doctor Dara Stanley (NUI Galway) and Doctor Tom Doyle (NUI Galway) will also deliver plenary talks on Restoration Ecology, Pesticides and Bees and Jellyfish Ecology respectively.
There will also be workshops on Research Ethics, Getting Published, Academic and Alternative Careers and Science Communication.
The event organisers will also showcase West of Ireland produce and promote sustainability during the three-day conference.
