Engineers Week 2015 comes to IT Sligo and promises an exciting array of free public events for enthusiasts of all ages.
The Sligo/Leitrim dates are February 9th to 14th.
Now in its ninth year, Engineers Week is a programme of nationwide events with the aim of celebrating the world of engineering in Ireland. The week aims to create a positive awareness and spark enthusiasm about the engineering profession to people of all ages, especially students and their teachers and parents.
The local events are being organised by the North West Region of Engineers Ireland (EI) in association with IT Sligo.
“The theme of the week is ‘Engineering is for Everyone,” explains John Casserly, who’s Chair of the North West region of EI and a lecturer at the Institute. “Several of our events are designed to broaden the appeal of engineering as a career choice for our school leavers by showing them what an attractive and rewarding career it can be.”
One of the key events, taking place at the Ursuline College in Sligo on Wednesday, February 11th, will be a day-long workshop entitled ‘Women in Engineering’ . It’s being held at the Ursuline for the College’s female Transition Year students.
Úna Parsons, who’s Head of Department of Mechanical & Electronic Engineering at IT Sligo, agrees. “Women working as engineers can bring different perspectives to the profession,” she says. “By attracting more female engineers and using their intelligence, creativity and values in solving the problems we face, project teams are better enabled to generate more creative solutions that better address and meet society’s needs to create a sustainable future, improve health and build physical infrastructure”.
Engineers Week 2015 at IT Sligo runs from Monday, February 9th to Saturday, February 14th.
