IT Sligo is hosting a number of events this Wednesday as part of Engineers Week 2012, which from today until Sunday March 4th.
Engineers Week is an Engineers Ireland-organised campaign held annually to promote engineering as a career and the importance of the profession to Ireland.
The theme for Engineers Week 2012 is “Connecting Our Lives”. During the week events for students of all ages, aimed at highlighting the importance of engineering to our daily lives, will take place across the country.
Events on campus this Wednesday, February 29th:
- Jim Kelly, former Electro Technical Officer with P&O Cruises, will deliver a lecture on ‘Careers for Engineering Graduates in Marine Electronics’ at 1.30pm in lecture theatre A0006. This talk will be of particular interest to students and graduates of Electronics, Mechatronics, & Mechanical Engineering.
- At 7.30pm The Engineers Ireland Student Debate will be held in lecture theatre A0006. Students will debate the motion ‘As a profession, engineers work to high ethical standards’. The event is open to members of the public to attend.
IT Sligo student and member of the team that won the Microsoft Imagine Cup last summer, Calum Cawley, will deliver a lecture in the Sligo Park Hotel tonight, Monday, February 27th at 8pm. Calum will describe the team’s software design project which involved developing a device that plugs into a car and monitors dangerous driving behaviour and road conditions, providing instant feedback to both the driver and the car owner. Calum is studying mechatronics at IT Sligo, focusing on industrial automation, embedded technology and software development
Representatives from the KITE Project will also give a demonstration of how practical laboratories can be conducted online through innovative research carried out at IT Sligo, at a number of secondary schools in Sligo.
