What have ‘The Sound of Music’ , magic mirrors, Brexit and airplanes got in common?
They’re all part of Engineers Week 2017, which takes place at IT Sligo from March 4-10th.
Engineers Week is a national week-long programme of events celebrating the world of engineering in Ireland. The aim of the week is to create a positive awareness of and spark enthusiasm about the engineering profession among young people with little or no engineering background. All the events are free and open to the public but pre-booking is required for some of them.

ENGINEERING DOJO
Saturday, March 4th, 2017
This is an engineering Dojo workshop held on Saturday morning from 9 to 12am targeted at young children. It is an interactive session that will provide a hand on approach to engineering and automation activities. The workshop is facilitated by SL Controls.

Dr Ken Farquhar provides primary school children (third to sixth Class) with a spectacular 45-minute show which blends spectacular magic tricks, illusions and stunts with extraordinary science and engineering. Trapped doors, mirrors, or camera effects? Everyone can have their own theory. Quirky stunts and illusions performed. Science discovered. Engineering explored.
Please note: Children must be accompanied by an adult.

This is a late late show evening with local entrepreneur David McGowan who will discuss his new business ventures. David made international headlines in May 2016 when he and a team of people transported a Boeing 767 plane from Shannon Airport to his glamping site in Co Sligo – by sea.
SOUND OF MUSIC WORKSHOP

This two-hour workshop is tailored for secondary school students, and will give them an opportunity to learn about sound and how to make their own sound equipment from everyday items.
