G-Led Lighting, based in Taiwan specialises in manufacturing and developing environmentally friendly LED lighting systems, for public street lighting and also for private, commercial and domestic purposes. Mr. Daniel Liu, Managing Director of G-Led Lighting, is considering Sligo as their base of operations in the supply of their products to Europe.
The G Led Visiting Party visited in Sligo on Friday to evaluate the region and discuss with possible partners the move that could bring many jobs to Sligo. The multi-national company which employs over 15,000 staff in Taiwan, including 250 Research & Development engineers, said he was very impressed with the facilities available to companies locating to the Sligo area – especially the specialist facilities in IT Sligo.
At a lunch, hosted by the Innovation Centre at IT Sligo, Head of Innovation at IT Sligo, Niall McEvoy and Dr. John Bartlett, head of Research briefed Mr Liu on the supports available for G Led at the Institure. Following the meeting it was agreed that G-Led Lighting’s Chief Engineer will visit Sligo next month to technically assess Campus research and development facilities.
Sligo County Council in collaboration with IT Sligo will most likely be engaged in carrying out a study of the revolutionary street lighting system, invented by Mr.Liu, which provides brilliant lighting but with a 65 per cent reduction on electric bills coupled with 10 years of little or no maintenance on the product. Other environmental features include the ability to switch to ‘green light’ which greatly reduces light pollution and combats global warming.
