An understrength IT Sligo senior gaelic football team were well beaten by Kevin McStay’s Roscommon in their opening fixture of this year’s Connacht FBD League campaign.
The students were beaten on a final scoreline of 6-21 to 0-15.
Missing several of their Donegal contingent who were on Dr McKenna Cup duty the same afternoon, IT Sligo found the going tough early on and trailed by 2-16 to 0-3 at the interval.
To their credit, the Institute showed an improvement in the second half but the damage was done in the opening 35 minutes as the home team established a 19-point advantage during this period.
IT Sligo now prepare for a trip to Ballina this Sunday to play All-Ireland finalists Mayo at 2pm
They are in Section B of the Connacht FBD league this year along with Roscommon, Mayo and NUI Galway.
