An information night for parents of students who are set to sit the Leaving Certificate in June will be held in IT Sligo on Monday March 28th.
Advice will be provided on how to choose a course to study at third level, finance options and common problems encountered by first year students.
IT Sligo’s School Liaison Officer Bernadette Farrell said that the information evening provides an opportunity for parents to seek advice from professionals ahead of the final date for late applications under CAO on May 1st; “While students ultimately make their own decision about what course they want to pursue, many parents also want to take an interest in the employment opportunities offered by different courses and how the course can best be financed.”
“It’s also useful for parents to learn from professionals about the common problems that first year students face. Parental support is important as students make that transition from second level to third level education, and we are offering parents of Leaving Certificate students a firsthand view of what they can expect when their child starts at college and what they can do to help,” she said.
The information is free and open to all interested members of the public. It will be held in A0004 on Monday March 28th from 6.30pm to 9pm.
