IT Sligo and Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) partner for new Road Safety Audit Programme
A new road safety audit programme was designed and developed in collaboration between IT Sligo, TII and other subject matter experts. This Post Grad Certificate in Road Safety Audit and Engineering was validated at IT Sligo and had its first intake of learners recently.
The chair of this new programme, Dr. Brian McCann said, “This programme facilitates Civil Engineering professionals within the road engineering sector to develop appropriate professional road safety auditing and road safety engineering skills and learning. It is delivered part-time, utilising a blended approach of on-line lectures and workshops over one semester.”
According to Alastair DeBeer Head of Road Safety, TII, “Transport Infrastructure Ireland is proud to be collaborating with IT Sligo in the rolling out of this new course for Road Safety Auditors and Engineers. Road Safety Audits on National Roads is a requirement of TII and Local Authority obligations under the EU Road Infrastructure Safety Management Directive (2008/96/EC). This course will help build capacity among Road Safety professionals and the online nature of the course will facilitate many more to avail of the training.”
President of IT Sligo, Dr Brendan McCormack said, “IT Sligo is delighted to collaborate with another national body such as TII to fulfil a key national training need and we look forward to developing this partnership over the coming years.”
Trevor McSharry, Head of Department of Civil Engineering and Construction highlighted that this new initiative builds upon IT Sligo’s successful partnerships with the Local Authority Services National Training Group, Irish Water and the Society of Chartered Surveyors of Ireland for bespoke online part time programme development. He also confirmed that due to demand, IT Sligo are accepting applications for a January 2021 intake on this programme. For further details, see www.itsligo.ie/onlinelearning or call 071 91 55222.
