IT Sligo ladies win Intervarsities futsal title

The IT Sligo women’s soccer team clinched the WSCAI National Futsal Cup thanks to a 1-0 victory over IT Carlow on Tuesday.

The finals were staged at the Knocknarea Arena in Sligo.

IT Sligo’s matchwinner was Caoimhe Barrett, who scored the decisive goal two minutes from the end of the game.

The victory saw the Institute regain the title they last won two years ago.In total, this is the 20th trophy won by the IT Sligo women’s soccer club.

“The girls put so much effort into this since winning the regionals,” said Emma Mullin, the IT Sligo women’s coach. “They often trained at 7.30 in the morning and the newcomers to the team this year played a key role in our success.”

The IT Sligo team includes several students who are current recipients of IT Sligo Sports Scholarships.

The Plate Competition was won by Waterford IT who beat DCU in the final.
