The Organisation
The new Atlantic Technological University (“ATU”), which will be established on 01 April 2022, will be one of the largest multi-campus universities on the island of Ireland. The Technological University is now seeking to appoint its inaugural President and is inviting suitable applicants for the role.
This merger will be transformative to third level education in Ireland and the University will span the West and North-West region via eight campuses initially offering almost 600 academic programmes for over 20,200 students supported by 2,215 staff. The University will have a strong student focus and will bring together students, enterprise and communities spanning a unique geographical region which offers a high level of cultural, artistic and outdoor activities providing an excellent quality of life for its inhabitants.
The Role
The first President of this new Technology University will be a transformative leader who will empower and inspire our University community to realise ATU’s vision in the region, nationally and globally. The successful candidate, as President, will provide critical academic and executive leadership within the University community. They will lead the step-change in strategic research capacity required as a Technological University and the integration of three Institutes into a unified entity. They will be a strong external advocate for our vision to educate, inspire and develop talent to accelerate the sustainable economic development, social and cultural development of our region and beyond.
The Person
The successful candidate will have highly developed leadership, organisational and communication skills, combined with the strategic capability, vision and drive to shape the future of the Technological University.
They will have comprehensive knowledge and experience at a senior level that includes third level education institutions and similar research bodies, which may also involve business/enterprise, the public sector or similar complex large organisations. The TU President will have a proven track record of academic research leadership and achievement of signifi cant research funding. They will also have proven experience of developing, delivering and leading strategic change and possess an ability to articulate and frame the ambition of a large organisation.
