I am a sociologist and lecturer for a range of BA (hons) and MA programmes, and currently chair the BA (hons) Sociology & Politics. My teaching spans the interconnected fields of Childhood/ Youth, Inequality, Race, and Technology, as well as a collaborative arts module that engages students directly with community participants. I also supervise postgraduate research in related areas. My PhD research concerned Irish childhoods, race and belonging in the context of
contemporary discourses on migration, utilising art-based
methods. Research interests include children's rights and agency; migration and race in
children's lives; children's cultures; visual and narrative
research methods. Prior to joining IT Sligo in 2007, I worked as an artist/ facilitator in a range of community contexts.
