Sean Clancy’s ultimate goal is for his service to become one of the leading software compliance tools for the construction industry – in Ireland, the UK and beyond.
Sean is the founder and owner of Building Control Register.ie, which is to launch into the UK in the second half of this year.
The company, which is based at IT Sligo’s Innovation Centre, is a cloud-based administration, management and on-site inspection software system.
In a nutshell, it helps architects, engineers and building surveyors to comply with building regulations for new building works in Ireland.
“Our system guarantees a reduction of at least 50 per cent on the workload of these professionals as a result of the introduction of the Building Control (Amendment) Regulation in 2014,” says Sean.
Because the business is cloud-based, the customer does not have to download or install any expensive software.
“The end user simply uses a web browser on their computer to access our website and login to their administration area using an email and password giving them access to all their documentation which is securely stored on remote servers (cloud) located in Dublin,” says Sean. The customer can also access the on-site inspection through any mobile device.
Living in Dromahair, Co Leitrim, Sean has almost three decades’ experience in the Irish and UK building industry and has spent the last six years researching building control and regulation compliance.
Sean is also a registered energy assessor in Ireland and the UK. Other members of the team include award-winning architect Colin Bell and David Flanagan.
“Our ultimate goal is to become one of the leading software compliance tools for the construction industry in Ireland, the UK, Europe and America in the next six to eight years,” says Sean.
Sean has been based in the Innovation Centre since August 2013, starting off in the hot desk area before moving into his own office.
“The business could not have progressed without the aid of the Innovation Centre as it provided the facilities, contacts and atmosphere for this potential start up to progress from the idea phase to a viable business.”
Enterprise Ireland, through the New Frontiers programme, also helped enormously in developing the business, he adds.
