PROGRAMME SUMMARY

Skilled marketers are in high demand in Ireland and across the globe. With more business taking place online, now more than ever, our graduates are highly employable. The broad marketing knowledge gained on this programme, equips graduates with the skills for an exciting career in lots of different marketing and business areas.

PROGRAMME OVERVIEW

Students graduate with a broad business knowledge and a specialism in marketing. There are many roads of opportunity for a marketing graduate - digital marketing, traditional marketing, new product development, consumer insights, marketing metrics, logistics and global marketing are just some of the areas that employment may lie. This programme gives graduates the knowledge and skills needed for their future career. The guest lectures, Erasmus+ programme, work placement, community engagement projects and business insights trips, coupled with excellent teaching, lay the foundations for a much valued degree qualification and an enjoyable third-level experience.

YEAR 1 AND YEAR 2

Students gain an insight into core business modules as well as an introduction to marketing modules. Many modules have guest speakers and projects linked to local and international organisations. Business insights trips take place where the theory in the classroom is seen in practice while visiting various organisations.

YEAR 3

Students continue to develop their marketing skills and knowledge, which includes an opportunity to complete Google Ads accreditations. In Semester 2, students complete an eight-week work placement. It can often be difficult to get that first piece of marketing work experience. As the work placement is part of this programme, students not only graduate with an honours degree, but relevant marketing work experience too. Many past students have gained full and part time work with their work placement employers after the work placement has finished. Students can also choose to spend one or two semesters at one of our partner academic Institutions in Germany, France or Spain as part of the Erasmus programme. This is a fantastic opportunity to embrace a new culture and improve language skills.

Please note that modules may change for your year of entry. The exact modules available and their order may vary depending on student demand and course updates.

Alumni

After completing the Marketing degree in ATU Sligo, Leanne was accepted into a highly competitive graduate programme with an international FMCG company called Aurivo. After a 2-year programme that offered a wealth of hands-on experience in key marketing strategies and campaigns (TV adverts with Pippa O' Connor, brand awareness events and GAA stars etc.), this led to a permanent role as a marketing executive.

However, Leanne wanted a position in Galway and the ability to grow and progress, and so she applied to and became the Marketing Manager for the 5 Star G Hotel & Spa. There Leanne learnt an extreme amount, very rapidly, between software systems, revenue avenues, terminology, all specific to the industry of hospitality. After one year in the role she was awarded the Irish Hotel Awards - Marketing Manager of the year. “I was humbled and shocked, but it really helped my confidence and also my visibility to other Hoteliers and Hotel groups”.

More recently, Leanne accepted the role of Marketing Manager at the 5 star Glenlo Abbey Hotel and Estate, not only a property that she adores but one within a great Hotel Group MHL. To work for the largest most respected luxury Hotel Group in Ireland, seemed like a dream, and a massive career jump. Leanne applied for the role and after three tough interviews, "I greatly credit all my achievements and progress in my career to date to ATU Sligo - it's fantastic, hardworking and enthusiastic lecturers and also some of the fantastic leaders, I myself have been fortunate enough to work both for and with”.

Leanne McCafferty, Marketing graduate and Marketing Manager at Glenlo Abbey Hotel and Estate

After graduating from ATU Sligo, Ian managed to secure a sales and marketing role with a health food company based in Sligo called Good4U. His role involved selling and marketing healthy seeds and snacks nationwide through a variety of major retail chains and supermarkets (Tesco, Dunnes Stores and Pennys). He helped secure major listings with Musgraves and Pennys which was an amazing experience to face buyers and give presentations on the range of products.

After one year of working for Good4U he joined Druids Golf, a Golf Clothing company as Area Manager. They were expanding into the North of Ireland and Europe. His primary role was to seek new listings with major retailers, it brought him to countries like Italy, Spain, France where he helped secure a major listing with Europe’s largest online golfing website, Euro Golf. After six months of being on the road 24/7, Ian decided that he needed a job closer to home and moved to Mercedes-Benz in Sligo as a sales executive. It was an opportunity he could not pass up and he has been here for over two years now. His role has also expanded into marketing. He creates content for the social media platforms while also selling new and used cars.
