IT Sligo’s senior gaelic footballers bowed out of the Higher Education GAA Sigerson Cup 2016 on Tuesday when they were beaten by last year’s semi-finalists IT Carlow on a final scoreline of 1-10 to 0-10.
There was little to choose between the teams for much of the contest. Chris Healy’s first half goal for Carlow was the hosts opening score of the match. But IT Sligo hit back with unanswered points, with Adam Treanor prominent, and the sides were level 1-3 to 0-6 at the interval.
Willie Gormley’s team led briefly in the second half but fine points from, Chris Conroy, Mark Russell and Curley helped Carlow open up a lead and they held on for victory and a quarter-final date with the holders (DCU) on February 10th.
