The Sligo Science Festival 2016 (Science Week) returns on November 13-20th.
The week-long programme of activities and events aims to make science more interesting and accessible to children and adults alike. It highlights how science, technology and engineering are hugely relevant to us all in our everyday lives, lead to interesting and exciting career options and develop creativity in our children.
The Sligo event is organised by the School of Science at IT Sligo with events taking place at various locations and venues across the county over the seven days.

The Sligo Science Festival opens with the annual Science Fair at the Institute of Technology, Sligo on Sunday 13th November 2016. This family event provides a wide range of interactive displays and demonstrations that explain science in a fun way.
This year the Festival has a range of activities including roadshows, demonstrations, walks and lectures to suit a variety of interests.
Lunchtime and evening lectures include talks on obesity, concussion in sport, robotics in healthcare, forensics, irish seaweeds, agricultural policies, plastics in the marine environment, salt in the iron ages, Irish science heroes, cancer research, bird-ringing, maths in our daily lives, and the challenge of Everest.
There is a special preview screening of the new documentary ‘A Plastic Ocean’ in The Model on Wednesday November 16th. This documentary is due for worldwide release in 2017 and Sligo will host the only screening in Ireland.
There are a number of opportunities throughout the week to engage in research at the Institute, including the “School of Science Research Showcase” in Quayside shopping centre on Tuesday November 15th
The week concludes with a celebration of Science in the community with the Carrowkeel Archaeology walk and Moonwalking in Sligo.
