The Yeats Library at IT Sligo and Transition Year students from across County Sligo are bringing together an exciting series of local events and stories from 1916 – 2016 as part of a novel local history research project.
This collaboration has been designed to give students a taste of life at third level, encouraging them to work independently and focusing on research skills and digital citizenship.
Participants from several secondary schools across Sligo are involved. They are: St Attracta’s, Tubbercurry, Coola Post Primary School Riverstown, St Mary’s Ballisodare, Mercy College, Sligo Grammar, Summerhill College and the Ursuline College.
The students worked together with staff from the Yeats Library at IT Sligo on “Sligo Through The Decades” – a travelling exhibition. It will be on display at the Institute from March 8th until Easter. The exhibition will then visit each of the participating ‘Sligo Through The Decades‘ schools.
The project was part funded by Sligo County Council, in association with Ireland 2016, the Department of Arts Heritage and the Gaeltacht and IT Sligo.
