Sligo’s designation as European Volunteering Capital for 2017 will be officially launched at IT Sligo’s Knocknarea Arena on Friday, January 27th with a unique evening of music and performance sharing and celebrating the strength and range of creative collaboration in Sligo.
The ‘Spirit Of Sligo’ concert will be an opening gala spectacular, bringing together a host of Sligo’s leading musicians and artists.
They will include: Michael Rooney, Niamh Crowley, Kieran Quinn, Sligo Academy of Music Sinfonietta Orchestra, Sligo Gospel Choir as well as some of Sligo’s finest traditional musicians.
This special celebration event will also feature a selection of inspiring volunteer stories.
The EVC 2017 designation is a coup for Sligo in that it follows the major European cities of Barcelona, Lisbon and London in being chosen to showcase volunteering and the positive impacts that it has on lives across Europe.
